Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance launches RACT appeal

Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance has helped to launch an ambitious building fund programme for the Rootes Archive Centre Trust (RACT) by making the very first donation to the campaign.

The company, a long-term RACT supporter, has kick-started the innovative campaign, to raise the capital required to purchase the Trust a permanent home, by taking the fundraising total off the mark.

Marking the milestone in memorable fashion, Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance's donation was presented to Chairman of the Trustees, Gordon Jarvis, by Sir Stirling Moss at the recent Classic Motor Show at Birmingham's NEC.

Based in Banbury, the RACT has been preserving and protecting original material from the Rootes/Chrysler Engineering Department for the last 12 years and its archives include hundreds of thousands of detailed manufacturing drawings dating from the 1930s onwards as well as sales literature, 3D models, signage and unique artefacts.

The Trust, which currently rents a shared user building, is now seeking a permanent home for its burgeoning collection, safe from the risks associated with rent increases and short-term contracts. Through an innovative fund-raising campaign, the Trust is initially seeking pledges of £500 donations from individuals and organisations to ensure that the unique Rootes archive can enter the next chapter in its fascinating journey.

Peter James, Director of Stewart Miller & Peter James Insurance, said: "We are immensely proud to be the ones to launch this land-mark campaign - it is something we feel very strongly about and cannot stress enough the importance of protecting such a unique and fascinating archive for future generations to visit, learn from and enjoy."

Chairman of the Trustees, Gordon Jarvis, said he was delighted to launch the fund and accept the first donation, which starts the journey to securing modern, fit-for-purpose premises for the archive.

As well as securing financial donations, the RACT is also looking for volunteers with relevant experience in areas including Marketing, Property Law or VAT to join their dedicated sub-committee, responsible for driving the project forward.
